You'll be glad to hear there is no bleep during Myxomatosis too ;).

Unlike Pitchfork who couldn't come to an opinion I'll say Leisure has cool vibe similar to that brilliant Coconut Records album from a few years ago. Definitely a band from the northeast you can hear it in their sound. I get the feeling Leisure is a couple key songs away from a clear direction moving forward that will open all kinds of doors. Pop isn't dead but I think there's a lot of unchartered ground to be covered here that will take Leisure to better places in the long run. It's tough not to like these guys.
rating: cool
Leisure - It's Alright On the Suez Canal

more:
bandcamp
myspace

'when I was at college it was the Pixies and R.E.M. that changed my life...it's up to you now Jonny'- Yorke

I've been spending more time trying to get into Jonny Greenwood's head than my own the past few months. Learning how to beat the shit out of my guitar like him trying to sound like him…just trying to understand him. My neighbors definitely hate me for it. And I guess this show is a great reason why and worth at least a few listens. Recorded for the BBC in November 1995 Bends era at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge this set finds Radiohead just crushing it in the midst of stardom that was both overwhelming and yet just out of reach in terms of conquering the states. Jonny sets up on stage left. Lend him your right ear for an hour and you'll see he's legitimately out of his mind and I love him for it. He's a personal hero. Yeah I still have heroes. And the clip from Coachella '04 is nothing short of evolution.

If you're going to do something enjoy this set.
Bends
Bones
Anyone Can Play Guitar
Bullet Proof
Telex
Bishop's Robes
My Iron Lung
Blow Out
Fake Plastic Trees
Nice Dream
Street Spirit Fade Out
Stop Whispering
You
right-click to download or click play and sit back

Here's a great read from NME to help paint the times.

And I don't mean like the Michael Jackson video. BBU short for Bin Laden Blowin' Up takes Chicago hip-hop somewhere new. Check this out.

Maps & Atlases is not just another indie act mark it down now. Maybe I'm just a sucker for low-fi indie with just enough experimenting going on to make it different. I realize I'm late to the game here but I'm seeing Maps & Atlases next time they are in town which just happens to be with Frightened Rabbit on May 23rd. See you there?
BBU - Chi Don't Dance
Maps & Atlases - Solid Ground

Are you down for Suckers? My friend Kier is and he's cool so I thought I'd check them out. They have a new single making the rounds ahead of their debut album coming out in June called Wild Smile. Suckers are from Brooklyn. No pun intended. I'm including here the track that got me into them from their EP that is still making the rounds a year later. Life ain't bad today but I still miss my dog...

I can't stand mashups but I love Girl Talk. And I love Girl Talk because of Gregg's taste. It's one thing to throw a bunch of shit together but Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk gets it right because he has a deep understanding of period and style. It's about finding that barely-remembered hook that 4th and never-would be single from the record that is buried only because some marketing d-bag didn't think it would hit. And somehow Girl Talk brings it all together in ways I can only hope theLIST does in some small way...Crystal Castles is a popular pick here in the office thank Ali P. for the thought...Cults are a newfound love and I must say Pitchfork can claim the discovery. The rest of us are just followers of this new mysterious band without a myspace page or a google-able name. They have a bandcamp page check it...Oh No Oh My makes their second appearance on theLIST. Some of the realist shit around. And yea I just said realist. I don't have the time to go back and find a better word. This song makes me feel good...Heypenny is another newfound keeper. They are showcasing everywhere and seem to be a blog band of 2010. Just watch it unfold. Great sound great vocal. Check out Parade and tell me if you agree...The Drums are just too good to ignore. Yeah post-punk surf rock. Keep it going...And same with The Pass for that matter. I've been listening to you both all week. Indie rock with some character for a change thank you...Black Kids confidently keep doing their thing while I slowly get to the bottom of it. I'm becoming a fan no doubt because some of the hype from CMJ '09 is dying down. Now's the chance to confirm what we all thought…here's hoping they make it because I do believe there is a place for the Black Kids in the scene...I think the Secret Cities track on here maybe the best in the lot. Start to finish this song is epic. Big props to The Fader for turning me on to something from North Dakota! I'm not sure I agree with their take on the band but one man gathers what another man spills or something…Gus Black makes me feel sad and happy at the same time...And MC Chris is fking genius. How's that for articulating your emotion?

I can't type enough to hype these songs respectably. Listendownload below then buy and be a fan for life. Chime in what's fit that's missing?

Intro - No Time For Love Dr. Jones
Girl Talk - Set It Off
Crystal Castles - Vanished
Cults - Go Outside
Oh No!
I really like this song. It's got a similar vibe as Hockey who I still listen to all the time. Just enough edge but nothing revolutionary here. And most of the time that's fine with me as long as it's authentic. From their EP of the same name check out 'Colors' from The Pass. It's a fact great music comes out of Lousiville KY. The Pass is no exception. So listen up and let me know what you think.
What started a few months ago with Surfer Blood has turned into more than a passing interest in the whole emerging surf post-punk scene. My newest obsession is Brooklyn's The Drums. Managed by the one and only 3D and repped by Paradigm The Drums are set for a big 2010 fresh off the release of a new single 'Best Friend' Moshi Moshi. The buzz that started with their last release Summertime is turning into a mini-movement. Several shows on their current UK run are sold-out. I'm hearing rumors that a fall tour stateside is a strong possibility. Let's hope. Were you there? How was it? I heard Bob Dylan was in attendence. It's Monday morning and here's a fresh batch of songs that I hope you enjoy. This is the last 2.x version of theLIST so make sure you catch up before they are taken down from the site. Some heavy hitters here brand new MGMT included. Speaking of which after this leaked last week the band essentially disowned this saying it was more of a goof. Ironically I think it's a pretty great song that reminds me of The Doors. I actually love it now that I'm listening to it again. Go figure. Appleseed Cast is one of those bands you hear once and swear you've heard before. Catchy stuff here.

Just about all of these bands are new to me but Memory Tapes are emerging as one of the better indie acts in 2010. It's nice to see Portugal the Man get some attention after working so hard and making so much music the last few years. These United States are back with a brand new album here's the single. These United States have been a favorite of mine for a few years it's nice people are starting to notice. featuring new music from:
Free Energy The Middle East Pierre Twin Tigers Devics Laarks Pretty Good Dance Moves Rademacher Peasant The Morning Benders Rafter Jape Public Enemy The Strokes

Hey now and welcome to another edition of theLIST. That's my friend Greg up there. He's crazy. I had to send a very lard hard drive back to LaCie last weekend so I wasn't really checking out much new music until yesterday. I didn't mean to abandon you there.

Set I starts off with another winner from Free Energy. Somewhere in Austin they are being discovered right now. trust me. It's all rock n roll to me but Free Energy has an attitude that is going to prove helpful in the coming months as they deflect all kinds of bullshit in a push to the top.

The Middle East has been in my rotation for a few months now thanks to a KEXP writeup from a while back. This Australian group has been compared to The Arcade Fire but that's just exit's indie pop with substance. Check them out.

There's new music from Pierre making the rounds. One of my favorite duo's to come along in years. Great depth and the ability to create a pocket and hang out for a while. Just listen.

I found Twin Tigers going through SXSW mailers. Interesting band. You can get in early here doesn't look like the masses have taken notice. I'm sure Athens has though. Coming soon to a town near you Twin Tigers. Devics is somewhat similar Bella Union band trying to make it stateside with Filter. I don't know much about them and that's ok. Just find this song "If We Cannot See" interesting.

The Laarks are from Eau Claire WI. If you listen closely you can actually hear the desolation of winter coming through here. Absoultely Kosher made a great move signing these guys last summer. I guess I'm just late to the party since An Exaltation of Laarks dropped in November and they've been written up just about everywhere except here.

Set II starts off with some mellow electro from Pretty Good Dance Moves. Solid tune. Cool synths. Rademacher is a new band out of Fresno CA. that brings mellow rock to a good place with authentic song writing and just enough indie sensibility to last. I like this band a lot.

Peasant aka Damien DeRose is all about a simple vibe that builds throughout each song. D is hard at work getting ready for a 4-show run at SXSW starting TODAY. Good luck my friend. With a new record out now and a good amount of hype in the chamber this could be a big year for Peasant.

The Morning Benders are everywhere right now. Big Echo is out now you should definitely check it out. Excuses is the first single check it out here then go buy the record right after.

The Rafter record is clearly growing on me. Last time we heard Juicy and now it's another great track from Animal Feelings. It's hard not to like these guys. Asthmatic Kitty has a winner on their hands here clearly. Jape sets the table well for a classic from PE. And the encore is most certainly a keeper. Enjoy y'all!

Set I
Public Enemy - Introduction
Free Energy - Hope Child
The Middle East - Blood
Pierre - Gift Box
Twin Tigers - Passive Idol
Devics - If We Cannot See
Laarks - All The Words

Set II
Pretty Good Dance Moves - P.G.D.M.
Rademacher - If You Got Some Magic
Peasant - Well Alright
The Morning Benders - Excuses
Rafter - Timeless Form Formless Time
Jape - Floating Son Green Remix
Public Enemy - Bring The Noise

Encore
The Strokes - I Can't Win 10.31.03 Lowell MA

There's almost too much hip-hop on this List. This may be a good or bad thing but it is. The reason is pretty simple. I put a pool of a couple thousand 'new' songs in a playlist and go through rating as fast as I can throughout my work day. Anything that gets my attention off of EQAL good luck with that goes into the 'newcool 2.x' playlist on my iTunes. And It just so happens that my iTunes likes to breakdance lately. Well and listen to a lot of almost sad indie with big heavy hearts.

Every week or so I whittle that list down and try to make the songs fit together in basic mix tape fashion. And then I write about it or it's just a list of new songs. I probably spent hours putting theLIST v2.8 together and about 5 minutes writing this up. I bet these posts could be a lot better if I just put some more time into it. I bet you could say that about a lot of things.

Listening to it again right now there's some gems in here. The Hawa cover of D.A.N.C.E. is a must listen. The Avalanches can produce like it's 1986. The Chiddy Bang cover of Kids almost makes me want to listen to MGMT again. The Moreno song makes me feel good even though I don't understand a single word. And the Cook Kids x Hey Champ track is just up enough without being lame and anthemic. And the Kandid McFly track is nothing to fuck with for the most part. Encore is for skiers. And Artie. Feel better.

Save travels to the SXSW and SXSWi people.

Set I
Foreign Born - Vacationing People
Cool Kids x Hey Champ - We Are Champions
Chiddy Bang - Kids remix
Moreno - Pica
Maus Haus - Rigid Breakfast
Mr. Topaloff - Royal Deluxe
Virgin of the Birds - Every Revelry
The Avalanches - Run DNA
Hawa - D.A.N.C.E.
Kandid McFly - Strage Fright

Encore: David Bowie - Station to Station 8.5.90

PS- Now that you've heard them support these artists!
Live Selects 1.0 - Because We Were There

I've been meaning to post a bunch of live stuff from my archive for some time now. It's hard to convey what this group of tracks means to me because we're talking about 14 songs from 14 different artists from 14 shows. I did what I could to make transitions fit. And I guess looking at it now these bands do fit together. KOL lived on the road with The Strokes for years. Same with Arctic Monkeys for a time. Silversun Pickups makes records that extend the brilliance Billy Corgan introduced us to 17 years ago and along the way evolved to something else completely. Ima Robot was as good as Radiohead. I believe in Edward Sharpe himself because I lived for Ima Robot and still do. This FPT from Glastonbury is the dream of legends. Johnny lays into 80000 people like it's nobody's business completely emerged lock-step…and it is nobody's business. And the Jeff Tweedy track reminds me of being on tour and listening to the Dead. Go figure. Set I is up. Set II isn't. I tried to pick bands that are a little more accessible than a lot of the indie stuff I've been digging on lately. I'm hoping you find something from your favorite band that you've never heard before. Overwhelmed and all here's another edition of theLIST. I think there's a certain feeling of 'maintain and survive' throughout this one…just processing things and plain dealing. Nothing like posting at 4:30 in the afternoon for anti-stragegy. Anyone even listening? And where are you listening right now for that matter?

I saw Fanfarlo Saturday night at the El Rey. It's a mixed bag of emotions for me and Fanfarlo right now. Let me be incredibly selfish: The days of being one of a few thousand in the world who are in on such a great thing are numbered. And it's taking away from the closeness I feel to the band. I know this always happens. re: fuck off. But inevitably Fanfarlo is going to break and all kinds of uncool will flood the scene. But of course that's exactly what I want for them & more. Just a couple of months ago they packed The Echo I was lucky just to get in. And coming back a short time later to a crowd that was 2x as big in a much bigger venue was a major step up. They sounded great fresh off the Letterman appearance earlier in the week and it seemed like they were filming something for an NBC/Universal show of some kind. And in all honesty it really was a good crowd say what you want about LA crowds. But like I said it's inevitable that this band will reach great heights and the growing buzz is starting to make me feel like one of many. And I don't like being one of many. I can't help but think Fanfarlo will reach people in ways their predecessors haven't yet. I heart them. And as my friend Jessica said 'they can end a song better than anyone out there'….and she's right. She really is.

Two Door Cinema Club says people liken them to Death Cab For Cutie and Broken Social Scene. I loath Death Cab and almost moved on BSS is cool but still. I do not see it thankfully. Ireland gets it. And starting April 20th 2010 we will as well as Two Door hits US soil in support of Phoenix.

Dan Black is getting love for this track with Kid Cudi as he should. I've been bullish on all things Cudi since AM died. I don't mind saying it at least something came out of it because immediately the spotlight turned to Kid Cudi. Anyway listen to this song and tell me if Dan Black doesn't fit their vibe well and I'll tell you that you're wrong. And then go buy Un and support this other kid.

I'd be lying if I didn't remember Caleb yapping non-stop about The Features back in the day. I fell hard and we licensed them in LG15 I'm 99 sure it was 'Wooden Heart' . Thanks to Devil Has The Best Tuna I remember now how good they are. Aloha is new to me. They remind me of Tokyo Police Club btw hurry up guys…something about the keys so heavy in the mix almost like a rhythm guitar. Couple strong melody not over the top and sincere vocals and we're on our way.

The Toro Y Moi is a good transition track trippy stuff. Sarah Jaffe needs to get herself out on the road with Fanfarlo or The Arcade Fire. Just saying because she'd rip it up that's a good thing. She has heart and she'd probably be put off for me saying this but she's kind of cute. This song is from her upcoming Suburban Nature drops in May from Kirtland Records. Kind regards to the publishing folk out there pushing this around it seems well-worth it.

I might have listened to Velvet from The Big Pink 15 times before writing this. I'm not sure there's a better compliment. They are new. They are good. And people listen over and over again. If you're going to Coachella go see this band. They are on the road with A Place To Bury Strangers through April. I have a feeling Velvet is in a big commercial or was featured on a show I don't watch because this song is EVERYWHERE right now. Here's to being late to the party.

Deer Tick has a new record out in May hopefully called The Black Dirt Sessions. Until then marinate on this because as much as they run from it Deer Tick is edgy and accessible. This tension permeates every song if you look at it right. And their website is straight out of Geocities times. Very nice.

The Houston Brothers make me feel okay about feeling ok. Brand new stuff every music supervisor in town is running while the rates are low…I'm thinking Confederate Dunce is going to make the rounds. Good luck dudes.

Yes the encore is the real thing. Unreleased Strange Design demo from the Billy Breathes sessions at Bearsville before that other Barn was built/RIP Albert Grossman.
Part One of a series of behind-the-scenes looks at The Strokes recording their fourth LP. Filmed by the band members - narrated by Richard Priest

The Strokes have released a 'behind the scenes' video showing the band working on their new album, and you can see it by scrolling down.

Featuring the New York group in Manhattan's Avatar Studios, the 9-minute film includes the band working on a new song called 'Taken For A Fool' with producer Joe Chiccarelli.

Meanwhile earlier today, Julian Casablancas revealed The Strokes will play just two shows this summer.

Casablancas told NME.COM that those will be the band's only shows before they complete the record, with a September release planned.

"We're doing two with The Strokes and that's it for the summer," he said, adding he would take his solo show on the road again instead. "I'll do other festivals alone, If they'll have me!"

See this week's issue of NME, on UK newsstands now, for a full interview with Casablancas, during which he discusses the possibility of playing free shows this year too.

Artists Featured:
The Welcome Wagon Bisco Smith Freeway The Vermicious K'nids Par Avion Star Guitar Baby Monster Lali Puna Brent Nettles Southerly MC Chris Rogue Wave

tell me what you know about dreamin dreamin...

'It's been a long long time. How you doin? How I'm doin. I guess I'm doin' fine.' I am new to The Welcome Wagon and all of these songs as you hear them really but gospel isn't my thing unless Edward Sharpe counts. But this isn't really gospel. Bisco Smith is real deal hip-hop he's next. The beat always comes first and there's enough good production on here to shake the electronic landscape. seriously. I like Freeway's style way to go Cash Money baddest motherfkers around/Rhymesayers. This is brand-new you must check out the rest of this mixtape. I'm digging on how these two fit together. Long live Freeway. The Vermicious K'nids are something new from Nashville first record arrived at the end of last year BIG ups to IRC for the discovery. More experimental than most of what comes from Music City and a good transition song for midway through the set. Next up something so fresh and so clean clean that RCRDLBL is working. Behold Reykjavik's sup Tait FM Belfast. What is this velvet? It's beautiful!.

Leading off the second set is a badass Star Guitar remix. This is my weekly nod to aussie-homies Trashbags Kids you. must. listen.. Kids have rediculous taste. Star Guitar just released Humdrum buy it here and support the cause. Baby Monster is an electro-duo from far away but will be doing awesome things at SXSW next month. If you are going to Austin GO! Lali Puna has been around the block but they have a new album coming out in a couple of months. Reacquaint and get ready for a tour that will follow synchs in probably 2 commercials 12 tv shows and 3 films. you heard them here again first. Brent Nettles writes songs that get to the point tell a story and end. Notes aren't wasted. Tears and pain are shed. And you're on to the next before you know it. Set closer is my favorite rapper in the business the funniest most creative nerd I don't know MC Chris. MC Chris has a new album that drops next week Knowing's Half the Hassle and goddammit buy it.

Last nod to my friend Rogue Wave for dealing with a retard storm before anyone has heard much of the new music. I'm doing what I can because the only things I can't stand right now more than senseless backlash are unoriginality and misinformation. Ok back to work. I have no life.

Set I
Thom & Johnny - Intro
The Welcome Wagon - But For You Who Fear My Name
Bisco Smith - Broadcast Live TV On The Radio Remix
Freeway - Freezer's Back
The Vermicious K'nids - Snakebite Pt. 2
FM Belfast - Par Avion
Set II
Star Guitar - SALM - 5AM v3b Star Guitar Remix
Baby Monster - She Comes Alive
Lali Puna - Faking The Books
Brett Nettles - Leave The Ground Dry
MC Chris - Boys Don't Cry
Encore
Rogue Wave - Everyday cvr
right-click to download for a ltd. time

Reminder: Support these artists BUY their music pre-order their EP's see them live and talk about it here. Welcome aboard gets your ears and hard drives on theLIST v2.5.

I know next to nothing about Prizzy Prizzy Please other than a they have a cool name and b they have their own sound. You ask what else is needed and I reply "I don't know." The new Rogue Wave is a full on dance record and it's pissing a ton of 'fans' off. When a super-hyped indie band changes directions like this and alienates the cynical hardcore devoted who never ever want things to evolve I start paying attention. Vocals may feel like a postal service track triple dubbed and put in a blender but this shit works as far as I'm concerned so bite me.

Citay's brand new record Dream Get Together Dead Oceans is a phenomenal effort. Community music done good if you ask me. Get in early with this one you won't be disappointed. Broken Bells are on here with The High Road a brand new single that just dropped last week. Columbia is just starting to get the word out about their debut release on March 9th hence the leak we're checking out now. Simple production tight arrangements nothing to fear. Good luck guys.

Oh No Ono is a Friendly Fire act that I didn't really get into until my buddy saw them in New York recently and wouldn't shut up about it. I listened he's right. I trolled YouTube for a minute I would check them out live there's a connection on stage that is far from common. And "Eggs" is one of the better albums I've heard start to finish in a couple months. I predict good things. Invest wisely.

My heart still feels weak for Corinne Bailey Rae and I don't want to trivialize what she's going through by talking about it. Just listen and try not to cry.

Let's Wrestle is being hip-pocketed by a few music supervisors and agencies expect some kind of artist development here. I'm down for the cause this is good stuff that paints a picture tells a story. And that's important to me. For some reason this track from The Heligoats reminds of Ms. Potter's Lullaby so it stays. Nothing new here found this out there randomly. Against Me! is epic be a part of something real. And that's Set I.

Set II is influenced goodness and bangers. I cut up a couple things there's a new Air remix that is too cool for school. Caribou is a long time friend such a good sound. Priors feels straight out of 1983 not like I remember. You get the idea.

Please love. & share this link.

Set I The Stir
Intro - We Laugh At Danger And Break All The Rules
Prizzy Prizzy Please - Large Hadron Collider
Rogue Wave - Good Morning
Citay - Careful With That Hat
Broken Bells - The High Road
Oh No Ono - Internet Warrior
Corinne Bailey Rae - Are You Here
Let's Wrestle - We Are The Men You'll Grow To Love Soon
The Heligoats - Fish Sticks
Against Me! - We Laugh At Danger And Break All The Rules live

Set II The Shake
Ninca Leece - Funny Symphony
Niko Villamor - Million Pogo remix
Air So Light Is Her Footfall Breakbot Remix
Caribou - Odessa
Priors - What You Need Hey Champ Remix
Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours feat.

New Orleans own Generationals are one of a few bands right now putting a stamp on simple mid 60's retro wall-of-sound credible melodic songs that are full of heart and come off just humble enough. It just so happens they are going out for a few months with another of those bands and a long-time love The Apples in Stereo. Generationals debut record Con Law is a great afternoon listen check out these two tracks Faces in the Dark and When They Fight They Fight and hear for yourself. Then go buy the record. Park the Van has done a great job bringing these guys to light.
I didn't have a chance to see Radiohead last week at The Fonda re: I'm not famous or rich so I was excited when this turned up....quality isn't stellar but can be tweaked pretty easily in your EQ. If you were there and bought an extra poster I will give you my kidney for it. No I won't actually I probably won't even get to framing it right away thanks anyway.Jambase has some nice videos up from the event and Stereogum got great photos.

thanks kindly to Webinfront.net for the upload.

Radiohead - 1.24.10 Hollywood CA
original source
photo: Andrew Youssef

That's what comes to mind in the retarded shorthand I write here as fast as possible after spending so much time putting this together. I need to get back to work for a 3:15 meeting. So here it is theLIST v2.4!!

Solid White Panda cut up to lead into a brand new one from Theophilus just dropped so cool. Theophilus is a star dude is all groove. Rediculous sense of what's hot. Neon Indian sleeper from their 2009 disc Psychic Chasms that refuses to die called Deadbeat Summer. I'm new to Danger thanks to Trashbags Kids.

2080 got me into Yeasayer but it's been a while since I heard something else that I really got into. Wait's over with Ambling Alp and without question there's good buzz brewing for 2010. I'm sure there will be 29 remixes of it but good luck topping this production. If there was more cohesion in the indie world this song would be some kind of a hit.

The brand new Beach House is growing on me it's new love. what's up to Rock Insider. Best new music I've heard this year. Definitely an album worth picking up in its entirety.

I've spoken about Surfer Blood and all things considered these guys have a shot to be a breakout band this year. No bullshit. But don't compare them to the usual suspects please!

Jed & Lucia are local kids from Chatsworth CA. who sound like they are from somewhere much further east. They just released a brand new EP here's the title track to check out. I think it's the focus track of the record. And it looks like they are getting the blog treatment which is great to see for sure. I guess I had to go to Kentucky to find a band right here in my own backyard.

I don't know much about Local Natives they are new to me. I have a feeling they will do things at SXSW this year. Already booked they have 4 appearances and they're coming off what looks like a LONG European Tour which means they will be tired and hungry. My thought is this will translate well and as painful as it is will make the trek and storm worth bearing.

Freelance Whales emerged for me late last year thanks to We All Want Someone and the attention they got from touring with Fanfarlo who is still a top 3 band for me right now. There is something real here and I don't want to fuck it up by over talking it.

You may have noticed my update about Lil' Wayne yesterday. Here's what's going on. Someone sent me 39 albums of everything mixtures albums the works. I think it was just over 110 hours of music ALL Weezy. And I'm here to tell you from a nerdy white guy's pov we are witnessing true genius here. I am sitting on a post that compares the rise of Lil' Wayne to Phish because the similarities are worth talking about partly because no one ever will and because I really believe there is a lot to learn here. Have you seen the documentary? QD3 had probs getting it out but it's real. I think you'll like it.

that's all. Rock out Friday or sit at home and think about rocking out. at least you have something to listen to. these songs will play in order so just chill. goodbye.

Then another one. And another actually. I put them altogether listened carefully for the future cut most and came away with theLIST v2.3.

January is usually a dead period for big album releases as everything from xmas is off the shelf and people are gearing up for the pre-summer blitz. There will be a couple of winter sleepers but for now it's like the indie wild wild west with just tons of random tracks and mixes floating around begging for traction.

Crookers are burning up all kinds of shit. If I actually put together my list of acts that should be at Coachella this year but aren't they would be right there. Anthem yeah the insanely talented duke-bred kid we spoke about earlier is back with a solid remix. Brand new Gorillaz that is growing on me since it arrived early yesterday to inboxes all over. Give it a chance.

I need to encore the brand-new jj track featuring lil' weezy. Instant best of the year material by a landslide. I can't stop listening to it. It's crack. jj is insane. At around the 2:08 mark your face will melt. thank you very much.

Threes and Nines deliver an unreleased subtle gem "Fireworks" off their as of now untitled first record. Sony/ATV picked up their pub smart move because these kids can write flat out. I'm digging on what upright bassist Tasha Powers brings to the table. Her affect is grounding even though they are brand new I do believe T&N are just a couple of songs away and will manage to avoid a ton of the indie-folk backlash due to a fundamental sincerity that is simple and just works. I like them.

Vetiver is an old school LG15/DashGo act that just keep plugging along songs are getting tighter and more memorable. Loch Lomond is a wildcard I just got turned onto this morning. Thanks Belle! Ample melody included.

The Laura Veirs record just dropped poor girl and co. are on the road for about the next 200 days. I'll post more as they get closer to town solid tunes here.

I'm digging on Phantogram there's a sync out there just waiting to catapult them to new heights. Barsuk found a solid act to hang its hat on.

And finally some acoustic Against Me! because Tom Gabel is a star.

Hello people of mms. :
Crookers feat. You're going to listen to them perhaps download a couple get into someone new. You'll follow the links back to their websites and buy concert tickets and t-shirts. You will fall in love. You will comment here on the Facebook page and listen to all eleven-songs of this in order while you're getting ready to go out tonight and then again in the morning when you wake up…or something. Yes please.

I wanted to make this list with songs that may not be brand-new things that have been around for a minute and never seem to be too far out of reach…I ended up with maybe one or two of them exactly the opposite. In going through a bucket of unlistened to music this week I guess I found new things to latch on to including the brand spanking new jj track which arrived this afternoon which I think is excellent. I think if Kid Cudi arrived in the days when underground hip-hop ruled the world see: Wu Tang he would have been a legend. It's just so hard to break through right now especially in hip-hop that I worry his moment in the sun will fade before he gets enough traction. Who knows.

These United States were the first or second band I ever licensed for use in lonelygirl15 good group of people. They are slowly but surely getting there. Nod to the xx for an amazing BBC Radio 1 Session that's making the rounds. And of course a closing thanks to Jay Reatard for influencing so much in such a short time.
Surfer Blood is a band a lot of people are talking about in the wake of CMJ but until this morning I hadn't heard them when in my inbox appeared some shiny new mp3's. I think as much about the name Surfer Blood as I do The Tarheels but they have a good sound. Definitely don't sound like they are from Florida. Nothing revolutionary here but these guys are cool likable.

Well ok then scratch Against Me! off the list of bands I need to see before I die and move them to the list of bands I will see as many times as possible before time runs out. Saturday night at the Troubadour was insane. Absolutely insane. I haven't mixed it up with the kids in the front in a while I felt 16 again and had to pull over and ring out my shirt on the way back over the hill. Such a great vibe all around. Hell of a time. Tom Gabel is easily the most underrated performer out there today. Nothing more to say there the guy is a rock. There is so much more going on here than another punk band. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for bands that work for years to build a bulletproof following and bang it out night after fucking night of grueling 6-month tours and endless nonsense along the way. I haven't connected with songwriting like this in a loooong time. that's done thank god. It's nice to feel something again. Buy the ticket take the ride. I'm telling you.

Efterklang features one of my favorite indie arists Peter Broderick. We used 2 of Peter's songs in Harper's Globe and people seemed to really dig it. I heard Peter and the rest of this 7-piece sonic wonderland of a band had a new record and a new tour on the way and low and behold a couple days later a release just arrived from 4AD about the upcoming Magic Chairs LP. I'm into it. Nothing revolutionary but the vibe is there. Take a listen below. What do you think?

EFTERKLANG Announce First Live Shows for 2010
To coincide with the release of third album Magic Chairs released on 22nd February via 4AD Denmark quartet Efterklang have announced details of an early Spring tour that will span parts of North America UK and Europe.

On the eve of the album's official release the band will appear at Oslo's By:Larm festival in February before heading across the Atlantic in March and then back to Europe the following month one of the handful of UK shows includes headlining London's Shepherds Bush Empire on April 21st. As before Efterklang will perform with their seven-piece live band including US troubadour Peter Broderick and his equally talented sister Heather Woods Broderick.

In January before the band kick off their Magic Chairs Tour 2010 will begin in earnest as Efterklang combine forces with friends Slaraffenland to perform as a 12-strong band under the moniker "Slaraffenklang" for two special Danish shows. The mutant band will perform new versions of tracks from both bands' repertoire on January 23rd and 24th in Aarhus and Copenhagen respectively.

Winter/Spring 2010 Tour Dates
January 23rd - Voxhall Aarhus Denmark Slaraffenklang show - ticket info
January 24th - Skuespilshuset Copenhagen Denmark Slaraffenklang show - ticket info
February 19th - By:Larm Festival Oslo Norway info
February 20th - By:Larm Festival Oslo Norway info
March 2nd - First Unitarian Church Philadelphia PA USA
March 3rd - Le Poisson Rouge New York NY USA
March 4th - TT The Bears Boston MA USA
March 5th - La Sala Rosa Montreal PQ Canada
March 6th - El Mocambo Toronto ONT Canada
March 7th - The Pike Room Detroit MI USA
March 8th - Lincoln Hall Chicago IL USA
March 11th - The Triple Door Seattle WA USA
March 12th - Biltmore Vancouver BC Canada
March 13th - Doug Fir Portland OR USA
March 15th - Bottom Of The Hill San Francisco CA USA
March 16th - Spaceland Los Angeles CA USA
April 20th - Concorde 2 Brighton UK £10 advance /£12 door - ticket info
April 21st - Shepherds Bush Empire London UK £15 - ticket info
April 22nd - O2 Academy Oxford UK £10 advance /£12 door - ticket info
April 23rd - Cabaret Voltaire Edinburgh UK £10 advance - ticket info
April 24th - Black Box Belfast UK £10 advance - ticket info
April 25th - Whelan's Dublin IE €17.50 advance - ticket info
April 27th - Metropolis Bristol UK £8 advance - ticket info
April 28th - Nouveau Casino Paris France
April 29th - Grand Mix Tourcoing Lille France
April 30th - VIP Saint Nazaire Nantes France
May 1st - Centrifugeuse Pau France
May 2nd - La 2 de Apolo Barcelona Spain €15/18 - ticket info

Efterklang - Modern Drift
For more info on Efterklang click on through.

Ok I don't have a whole lot to say. Lots of fresh faces in here. Oh If you're seeing Phish at The Garden tonight have a good one. I call "Jim" opener here. It took me a minute to put these together but I think I found a groove. So enjoy this one while you can.

Thanks to the wonderful Ivana XL who was kind enough to share her new track 'EX.OH.' Fanfarlo is a staple truly and Mickey Gang might accomplish what Hyper Crush set out to do but in a more organic way. Interesting stuff. The Rural Alberta Advantage rocks my world and The Felice Brothers remind me of The Band without offending of course and sans 5 perfect singers.

These are strange days.
I was just moderately excited for another solo record from one of the guys in my dearly beloved The Strokes. Don't get me wrong the two Albert records surpassed all expectations but that's about it. I'm so ready for the return of arguably one of the better acts of the decade which is coming later in the year. Certainly one of my top 5 bands period.

After listening to this first single from Julian I was into it but not over the top. BUT then I found out this morning he took 100 control of the entire "Phrazes For The Young" out November 3rd wrote and played every part. Blew me away and put the whole thing in a different context. There's going to be a short tour small venues post more details here if you have them.
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension

There’s a couple curveballs in here but nothing too far out of bounds. I believe in all of these acts if for nothing more than authenticity. I’m so overwhelmed with all this new music, bands coming out of every corner, that it’s really hard for things to stick. I have a lot of 3-day love affairs with bands lately and I’m not sure what to think about it. Never before have I been so quick to judge.
Here are 15 essential songs I’m into right now, mostly a lot of confused rock. I have no context other than my mind and believe me, I don’t get to half of what gets sent here in any kind of timely fashion and I have an impulse problem.

But sometimes I'm early and it's nice to see a band ride the wave. I’m not really sure what’s on terrestrial radio, so I don’t know what has broken, or what never will. But to me, these are absolute gems.

Hockey will break. Parts & Labor are a record away. Scissors For Lefty should be next year’s Killers (I’ll take one Bryan Garza over 20 Brandon Flowers). Tim Fite keeps evolving and Casiokids are too cool for school. Best Radiohead cover I’ve ever heard in there as well.

*listen to these songs in order for maximum impact
Tough Alliance – Taken Too Young (7” remix)
Hockey – Too Fake
Los Campesinos! – We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed
Calico Horse – Idioteque (radiohead cover)
Parts & Labor – Nowheres Nigh
Delta Spirit – Gimme Some Motivation
Gomez – Airstream Driver
Merchandise – Sunday Song
Scissors For Lefty - Ornamental
Neon Indian – 6669 (I Don’t Know If you Know)
Fanfarlo - Ghosts
The Rural Alberta Advantage – Frank, AB
Peter Bjorn & John – Nothing To Worry About
Tim Fite – No Good Here
Casiokids – Togens Hule
(right-click to download)
